The Eastbridge, or Eastbridge Hospital of St. Thomas the Martyr, to give it its full name, is not a hospital as we use the word today. It was and is still a hospital in the original sense of the word, a place of hospitality.
Escape the bustle of Canterbury city centre and relax in the recently replanted Franciscan Gardens. Inspired by the site’s original use as a Franciscan Friary, discover a hidden gem of symbolic planting, peaceful paths and the beautiful Greyfriars Chapel. Walk in the footsteps of the first Franciscans in England and enjoy this place of contemplation and tranquility beside the burbling Great Stour river.
